“August is not about interiors—it’s about exteriors, sunlight on the skin, and the quiet art of living outdoors.”
Born in Greece, August has always carried a sensory weight for me: the sun draping the landscape in gold, the rhythmic crash of waves against the shore, and the tang of sea salt lingering on lips long after swimming. For me, it has never been about walls or curated corners—it’s about air, light, laughter, and freedom.
Lounging and Giggling
“Afternoons blur into long lunches by the sea, filled with laughter, conversation, and clinking glasses.”
August is not just a pause—it’s a giggling, salty celebration of life. Afternoons dissolve into long, unhurried lunches, where the hum of voices mingles with the sound of the waves. Dinners spill into the dusk, flavored with sweet melons, juicy prickly pears, and the earthy tang of fresh herbs. These are the moments when nature itself dictates design: the curve of a shoreline, the gradient of the sunset, the way wind lifts a linen tablecloth just so.
Lessons from the Outdoors
It is in this ambient theatre of light and life that this month teaches. The shapes of cliffs, the movement of trees in the breeze, and the reflection of sunlight on water all show flow, proportion, and harmony in ways no interior can. Even the smallest details—like the prickly texture of a cactus fruit, the geometry revealed in a sliced melon, or the crisp white of a tablecloth against the deep blues of the Aegean—become lessons in effortless style.
A Month to Celebrate
“True design is not only in rooms we inhabit, but in the light, movement, and beauty of the world outside our doors.”
August is a celebration of exterior living. Patios, terraces, gardens, and beaches become stages for laughter, meals, and quiet pauses in the sun. Every sun-dappled stone, drifting cloud, and playful gust of wind contributes to a living tableau that inspires creativity and reflection.
For me, August is also deeply personal—my birthday tucked into the sunlit embrace of summer. It is a month to honor the outdoors, to breathe, to laugh, to swim, and to carry the lessons of its effortless design back into everyday life.
August is not a pause—it’s a salty, sunlit celebration of life.
